Marion Thompson is the assistant pastor at Jam Ministries and it is a blessing from God to have him. Marion is a bilingual preacher/teacher of the word of God. This will allows Jam Ministries to have English and Spanish services at the same time. Marion regards Jesus Christ as the most important and central figure in his life. He loves the Bible and reads God’s Word almost every day. Although not raised as a Christian, when he accepted Christ he soon realized that there is nothing more important that serving God. Prior to his Christian life, football and fast-pitch softball were the loves of his life. He was blessed to play shortstop for several state championship teams and to quarterback the Lackland AFB Warhawks during their undefeated season, eventually winning the Air Training Command Football Championships. He graduated from Texas Tech University with a business degree and a major in marketing, later taking some graduate courses at UTSA. In addition to being involved in various business ventures, Marion has been a social worker in San Antonio , a juvenile probation officer for Bexar County , and a teacher-coach at a Christian school. “Of all my memorable experiences,” Marion said. “none compares to my pro-life involvement with Operation Rescue when I felt ‘closer to God’ than at any other point in my life.” Attempting to save babies from the gruesome death of abortion can prove to be a somewhat risky venture, as can be attested to by his having been arrested around thirty times in cities as far away as New York City and Wichita, Kansas . This time frame turned out to be the most spiritual-strengthening period of his life and also when he met Roxanne, his wife now of eleven years. They have two daughters, Alicia and Ashley. “ Sometimes friends would insist that there must be an easier way to fight the abortion-battle than being arrested and serving time in jail,” Marion relates. “I would merely ask them one question which always seemed to end the discussion: Do you believe my freedom is worth more than the life of an unborn baby?” The Texas Justice Foundation defended Marion on three separate cases--one of which was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court of the United States --in which he was arrested for preaching on a public sidewalk in front of an abortion clinic, something he had done for many years. ![]() |
